Workout Log: 10 January 2017

When I first started training with R, there was one workout where we did crossfit-like activities, which led me to express my general dislike for anything crossfit. R agreed with me, and we didn't do any other crossfit-style workouts in 2016. However, with the focus on preparing for the Atacama Crossing, we're working more cardio and, unfortunately, crossfit-style stuff into my training. I miss the heavy objects.

Workout type: crossfit-style
Muscle groups: full-body
Jog: 1 mile (slow ~ 4.5mph)
Run/Walk: 2m walk, 1m run, 1m walk, 1m run, 1m walk, 1m run, 1m walk, 1m run, 1m walk (all run intervals >= 8.0mph)
Sandbag clean/squat(15) + farmer's walk(?) + overhead ball slam(10): Each round was 1 set, for a total of 3 sets. The sandbag was 40lbs, and the ball was 30lbs.
One round of trainer pulling, which is exactly what it sounds like. I put a band around my waist and pull R across the gym while he holds me back. The dude weighs 280lbs and is literally twice as strong as me, so it takes a decidedly nontrivial amount of leg drive to move at all.

At this point I'd mentioned some tightness in my lower back, so we finished the workout with some table work - i.e., R's elbow kneading into various muscle spots. Ouch.
